I found out in November of 2011 that I had a cholesteatoma in my right middle ear, and had probably had it for quite some time. I had my first surgery in January of 2012 and in a matter of 12 months I had seven different surgeries on my ear. I developed a severe case of staph infection as well and had to have a picc line put in, which was replaced four times before being removed. But because the infection was so persistent I then had to have a portacath placed in my chest, but it was not surgically put in correctly so I had to have it redone 2 weeks after it was first placed. I have definitely had a a tough couple of years. The dizziness and headaches are so bad i cannot function normally anymore. Between the cholesteatoma and the many surgeries i have lost all my hearing in my right ear and i no longer have a sense of balance. I have "dizzy attacks" randomly and cannot complete normal living tasks on my own anymore. I am no longer able to work or drive, cooking a meal or folding laundry has become too difficult to complete. I have lost my sense of independence and have learned that life does not always go as you planned it. I just turned 26 years old and have had to file for disability. I was a preschool teacher and ran an after school and summer program for special needs children, and can no longer work. And to top it all off I found out about a month ago I need to have surgery yet again on my ear because it is draining and they believe either the tumor or the infection is back. But because of the extensive amount of scar tissue the MRI cannot confirm either one, so surgery is my only choice. BUT my ENT/surgeon whom I have had since the verh beginning has taken a job in another state, so I now have to see a new doctor. That alone is making my nerves and anxiety out of control. I am just frustrated and miserable at this point!  :'(
