Hi everyone. I am new to this site and so very glad I stumbled across it. I, too, have cholesteatoma. I am 24 years old now, but my first cholesteatoma started when I was just 14 years old. I have had 7 major ear surgeries due to this dreaded disease. Six of those surgeries were removing c-tomas. I noticed that I had moderate hearing loss at first, but soon my ear started to have drainage. The drainage was always tinged with blood. Terribly Gross!!!! My mastoid process area (area right behind the ear) became very red and swollen. All three of the ossicles were damaged severely and were replaced with artificial bone. I am waiting to go under for surgery in just a couple months. This is the worst cholesteatoma I've ever had. I am praying that everything will go good and that maybe this might be my last, by the grace of God. It's really a scary thing to undergo surgery especially knowing all the risks and conflicts that could take place unexpectedly. I'm trying to stay positive and stay in the peace of God. Sorry to all you others who are also suffering from cholesteatoma. I feel your pain and if anyone knows how it is to have ear complications its me.
