I will be going in for surgery this Wednesday. Unfortunately, this problem could have been reduced with more communication as I discovered that my father also had cholesteatoma. About a year and a half back, I woke up with an ear infection, which had started to reoccur as I hit my 30s. After three weeks on the usual medications, I noticed that my hearing was gone. My primary care physician waited a month to see how things healed, then sent me to an ENT. The ENT could not see anything, but he passed me on to a surgeon for a better look. Finally, last May I was diagnosed. Unfortunately, my HMO dropped the surgeon I had been seeing and sent me to a surgeon that I did not care the least for. Finally after changing insurance this June, I am ready for the surgery. My hearing has worsened and I have noticed blood on my pillow that is likely from the ear.

Thankfully my father had gone through the surgery so I feel a little less nervous. I am just curious to see how i react.
